Molly is 7 months old and was surrendered as her previous owner couldn’t afford the surgery. She only had her for five weeks when she realized that there was something wrong. This was not an easy decision for Molly's owner to make but she knew if she did not Molly would not be able to have the much needed surgery she so badly needed, this was an act of love on the part of Molly's Mom.
Molly is going to UT on Thursday August 28th for her scintigraphy and possible surgery on Friday.
They called this morning to say she was going into surgery this morning. This little girl is adorable and had low bile acids results and we have now learned that sometimes even dogs with normal bile acids results can have shunts. It's a crazy horrible problem that won't get better until they find that genetic marker.
These surgeries cost $1,800.00 to $2,200.00, and in the last 3 months we have paid for several of these surgeries....
Any donation you could make to help us cover Molly's and replenish our funds for the others we have done would be so appreciated.
Liver shunt is not a death sentence, with the surgery they can go on to live wonderful happy lives.
UPDATE 8-28-09
From Molly's foster Mom
I called UT a little while ago and spoke to the student. He said that Molly is doing really well. She had a single shunt which they were able to put a constrictor on and they also spade her. They will continue to monitor her in the ICU today. If she continues to do well she will be discharged tomorrow morning.
